Céline Schmink: folk singer and influential blogger!
Viberant Fashion receives the singer and autoharpist Céline Schmink. Celine has released several albums and is the angelic voice of Dream Pop band “The Oengus Projekt“. Céline began professionally in music ten years ago by writing for French singers but for 26 years she has worked in the arts (dance and writing). Her songs are broadcast in the US and English-speaking countries where she has won many competitions, but also in Japan. It even has a Japanese site! Her “Paris-Memphis Cosy Tour” which included thirty dates in France helped boost its reputation. Céline is also an influential blogger. Her blog Leblogdeceline.com receives thousands of visits every week. Today, she looks back on her artistic career and her projects.
VF: Hi Céline, how are you? What’s happening?
CS: Everything is fine, thank you. I did a musical break of a few months since I just had a little boy named Ashley as in Ashley Wilkes in the film “Gone with the Wind.” I’m a fan. I gave many interviews to bloggers, magazines, radios and webzines during my pregnancy. This has somewhat offset the time I did not spend in the studio…
VF: Congratulations! You’re a singer, songwriter, author, blogger and mom twice! What a great experience! But you are not tired with all this?
CS: I’m overactive. I do not know how to sit idly and art is my way of expressing myself. I’m a mom first. For me people come before things and career! My album Paris-Memphis was a great human adventure with the US. The birth of my son Ashley, ten years after my oldest, Noé, is a unique and amazing experience. Ashley loves the sound of the autoharp to fall asleep so I did not really put music aside…
VF: And baby already has favorite singers?
CS: Hard to say, but I noticed he falls asleep easily on Tim Buckley and Johnny Clegg and loves lounge music! (Laughter)
VF: What are your musical projects?
CS:I work with Eric Miller, who has worked with the greatest particularly in the context of television talent discovery. My new album will be released in 2017 and will sound more electro-pop than Paris-Memphis but I do not forget the bluesy folk, rest assured, folk is my passion! It will contain 10 songs of love in the language of Molière and Shakespeare.
VF: You have just given birth and you have a perfect look, what’s your secret?
CS: You think? I take care of baby and me. I eat very healthily because I’m breastfeeding, I am a convinced pro-breastfeeder. I lost 15 kilos since the birth of Ashley a month ago. For now I resumed singing only 20 minutes per day. I try to rest as much as possible. I will return to the studio in May to record a song with The Oengus Projekt.
VF: Your fashion-lifestyle-humor blog is increasingly known, how do you explain it?
CS: Many renowned photographers have participated in the design of the new version that includes family issues, family, maternity, in addition to fashion, lifestyle and humorous dispatches. Everything is very graphic. Famous designers dress me from time to time as the Maison Méral and Slinky Sleeves Australia for example, and I give some of my people outings, pictures of my video filmings, TV shows to which I am invited, it pleases a lot! People need to dream. This is why the lives of others can fascinate even if it is actually really simple and bohemian! There is no organization behind it, I do everything by feeling: songs, articles, photos…
VF: You’re releasing a new book soon; can you tell us more?
CS: It will be released at Accomplishment House Editions. It is about personal development that addresses distance relationships, how to succeed.
VF: Musically you have other projects?
CS: Yes. Two singles come out in September. I plan to make a great launch in Belgium next year for the release of my new album. I’ll talk about it later.
VF: With pleasure. Celine thank you, see you soon!
